Dad of the Year, Vol. 6

So last weekend the boy and I took our first solo road trip while Mom stayed home alone drinking margaritas and sleeping ’til noon. Or maybe she was studying for a big test she had on Monday. Eh, details. The point is she punked out and left the two stooges alone on South Carolina’s highways to terrorize rest areas along I-26. Somehow we survived. Thanks in large part to a little ingenuity on Dad’s part, stopping for an emergency picnic when the boy flipped his s*** midway through the return trip. Oh, and baby Ambien. That was pretty key.

Anyway, here’s a snapshot of what is certain to be yet another part of my ever-growing DSS file.

I think he’s saying, “Hey dip stick. Over here. Yeah, you. Are you seriously feeding me McDonald’s in the middle of a field next to a construction site?” (Then he said, “hashtag fail.”)

This month’s Lowcountry Parent column is about our child’s first haircut. An absolute tearjerker for any parent.
